Mohammed Abu Shamala

August 21, 2014: Mohammed Ibrahim Abu Shamala, 40, was killed by Israeli soldiers who fired nine missiles from their war jets targeting the home of Nasser Hussein Kullab, and nearby homes, in Canada area, in Tal al-Sultan, west of Rafah, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.

The three-story, 200 square/meter Kullab family home was inhabited by two families of fourteen members, and was destroyed by the Israeli missiles, while six nearby homes were severely damaged.

The Israeli strikes led to the death of twelve Palestinians in these targeted homes; three of them were leaders of Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas. Among the slain Palestinians were four children and three women.

Medical sources in Rafah said at least 54 Palestinians were injured in the attacks, including 22 children and 16 women.

Mohammed was killed along with ‘Aiysha Ismail Attiya, 63, Ra’ed Subhi Al-Attar, 40, Mohammed Hamdan Barhoum, 45, in addition to Nazera Ramadan Kullab, 41, her sons Ahmed, 17, Yousef, 15, and Abdullah, 11, Hasan Hussein Younis, 79, his wife Amal, 53, their granddaughter, Seba, 4, Ra’ed al-Attar, 40, Mohammad Barhoum, 45, and Abdel-Fattah Abu Sleimeh who died from his wounds on September 10, 2014.

At least 72 Palestinians, including more than 15 children were killed by Israeli missiles and shells that day, in various parts of the Gaza Strip. Mohammad was from Rafah. Source: IMEMC, Mezan Center for Human Rights
