Ghidaa Omar Salama Dheir

July 29, 2014: Ghidaa Omar Salama Dheir, 7, was killed by Israeli missiles fired from aircraft at the family’s three-story house, in Rafah, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.

Five families comprised of 26 Palestinians were living in the bombardment house which was completely destroyed, causing the death of 19 Palestinians from Dheir family, including eight children.

Al-Mezan Center for Human Rights has reported that most of the residents of the bombarded building were not at home at the time of the Israeli bombardment, but most of the family members returned to the building to reunite with her grandmother, Turkiya, to celebrate Eid al-Fitr Muslim feast which marks the end of Ramadan.

The slain family members have been identified by al-Mezan Center for Human Rights as:

  1. Turkiya Khalil Hamed Dheir, 66.
  2. Ezat Salama Mahmoud Dheir, 23, Turkiya’s son. (Journalist)
  3. Omar Salama Mahmoud Dheir, 38, Turkiya’s son.
  4. Reem Abdel Aziz Mohammed Dheir, 32, Omar’s wife.
  5. Maria Omar Salama Dheir, 12, Reem and Omar’s daughter.
  6. Ghidaa Omar Salama Dheir, 7, Reem and Omar’s daughter
  7. Mohammed Omar Salama Dheir, 10, Reem and Omar’s son.
  8. Mo’men Omar Salam Dheir, 9, Reem and Omar’s son.
  9. Yamen Omar Salama Dheir, 5, Reem and Omar’s son.
  10. Mahmoud Salama Mahmoud Dheir, 46, Turkiya’s son.
  11. Jamalat Mahmoud Mohammed Dheir, 41, Mahmoud’s wife.
  12. Salama Mahmoud Salama Dheir, 12. Jamalat and Mahmoud’s son.
  13. Mohammed Mahmoud Salama Dheir, 8, Jamalat and Mahmoud’s son.
  14. Arwa Mahmoud Dheir, 16.
  15. Shorouq Mahmoud Salama Dheir, 21, Jamalat and Mahmoud’s daughter.
  16. Ola Mahmoud Salama Dheir, 19, Jamalat and Mahmoud’s daughter.
  17. Yasmin Ahmed Dheir, 24, Omar’s sister-in-law.
  18. Tasneem Mohammed Salama Dheir, 4, Yasmin’s daughter.
  19. Wafaa Abdel Razeq Eid Dheir, 29, Omar’s sister-in-law who was pregnant.

That day witnessed one of the most intensive Israeli bombardments and shelling in the Gaza Strip.

Mohammad Ziad ar-Reefy

August 21, 2014: Mohammad Ziad Abed-Rabbo ar-Reefy, 28, died when the Israeli army fired a missile at his home, during the Israeli war in the Gaza Strip, in the summer of 2014.

Mohammad’s nephew, Omar Nasr Ziad ar-Reefy, 4, was killed instantly. Omar’s brother, Mohammad Nasr ar-Reefy, then 10, was seriously injured, on August 21, 2014, with injuries and shrapnel all over his body, including a piece in his spine, resulting in quadriplegia and various health complications. Mohammad died in November 2018 at age 14.

In addition, the Israeli missile instantly killed Nasr Ziad ar-Reefy, 35, in addition to the children’s cousin Abdullah Tareq ar-Reefy, 7, and Abdullah’s brother Ziad, 13.

The Al-Mezan Center for Human Rights reported at the time that, on Thursday morning August 21st, 2014, an Israeli war jet fired a missile toward farmland owned by ar-Reefy family, near the an-Nafaq Street, north of Gaza city, killing five members of the family, including three children, and wounding four, including two children, identified as Maram ar-Reefi, and Ziad Tareq ar-Reefy, 9, who later died from his wounds.

It said the soldiers killed Ahmad Tareq ar-Reefy, Mohammad Tareq ar-Reefy, 13, Abdullah Tareq ar-Reefy, 6, and Mohammad Ziad Abed-Rabbo ar-Reefy, 28, and injured dozens, many of them seriously.

A few hours later, the army fired a missile into Sheikh Radwan Graveyard, north of Gaza city, killing four graveyard workers and caretakers, identified as Abdul-Rahim Talal Shweikh, 22, Rami Hamdi Salem, 20, Mohammad Hamdi Salem, 18, and Awsam Talal Shweikh, 45, in addition to seriously wounding Salem Abu Ghaddayeen, 28.

The Al-Mezan Center for Human Rights said the soldiers killed at least 2218 Palestinians during the 51-day Israeli offensive on the coastal region, while dozens later died from their serious wounds. Around 84% of the slain Palestinians were civilians, including hundreds of children.

Al-Mezan stated that the Israeli bombardment and shelling of Palestinian homes, residential buildings and structures, resulted in wiping out entire families, while dozens of families lost multiple members. According to UN OCHA, 142 families lost 3 members or more in the Israeli attacks.

Lama Ahmed al-Khalili

July 30, 2014: Lama Ahmed al-Khalili, 4, was killed by Israeli soldiers who fired two tank shells at the house of Mohammed Ata al-Khalili, in the al-Sanafour area, in the at-Tuffah neighborhood, east of Gaza city.

Lama was killed along with her father, Ahmed Mahmoud al-Khalili, 28, and her mother, Aya Mohammed al-Khalili, 23.

Her uncle, Ashraf Mahmoud Al-Khalili, 33, along with wife, Nedaa Ziyad al-Khalili, 27, their daughter, Deema, 5, and their son Ziyad, 2, were also killed by the Israeli shells.

Ashraf and Deema’s son, Mahmoud, 7, was seriously injured, and died from his wounds at an Egyptian hospital on August 04, 2014.

At least 110 Palestinians, including many children and women, were killed by Israeli missiles and shells that day alone, in different parts of the Gaza Strip.

December 11, 2014: Ziad Abu Ein, 55, was killed by an Israeli soldier who struck him in the chest in Turmus Ayya village, near Ramallah in the West Bank. The soldiers assaulted Palestinians and internationals planting trees on Palestinian land Israel wants to illegally confiscate, fired gas bombs and repeatedly targeted Ziad, who was a government minister heading the Palestinian Committee against the Wall and Settlements.  Ziad was from Ramallah. November 18, 2014: Ghassan Abu Jamal, 27, was killed by Israeli army and police fire along with his cousin, Odai, 22, after they attacked a Jewish yeshiva in Jerusalem with knives and guns, killing four religious Jews and wounding six others, before they were killed in a fire exchange with the Israeli police.
