Mohammad Maher Mer’ey

June 29, 2022: Mohammad Maher Nafe’ Mer’ey, 25, was killed by Israeli soldiers who invaded Jenin, in the northern part of the occupied West Bank.

Dr. Wisam Baker, the director of Khalil Suleiman Hospital in Jenin, said the soldiers shot Mohammad with several live rounds in the heart and the abdomen before he was rushed to the hospital, but succumbed to his serious wounds, despite all efforts to revive him.

The Palestinian was shot during protests that took place after several Israeli army vehicles invaded Jenin.

Dr. Baker added that the soldiers also shot another Palestinian, who was rushed to the hospital and is in a stable condition.

During the invasion, the soldiers stormed homes and occupied rooftops of tall buildings in Jenin and the Jenin refugee camp and used them as firing posts for their sharpshooters.

The Israeli army said it invaded Jenin to arrest a “wanted Palestinian” in Jenin.

Montaser Sammour, the head of the Jenin office of the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS), said the soldiers abducted Yahia Yousef Aref Jaber, 23, and Ahmad As’ad Abdul-Halim Nabhan, 26, from their homes in Jenin.

Dozens of Palestinians marched in Jenin carrying the corpse of the slain young man while chanting for ongoing resistance until liberation and independence are achieved and calling for national unity among all Palestinians and their factions.

All civil society institutions and political factions in Jenin declared a general strike during the funeral procession and ceremony that will be held on Thursday afternoon.

The city of Jenin, the Jenin refugee camp, and many surrounding villages and towns have been subject to daily invasions, including the violent storming, searching of homes, and the abduction of dozens of Palestinians.
