Abdul-Hadi Abdul-Aziz Ashqar

February 22, 2023: Abdul-Hadi Abdul-Aziz Ashqar, 61, was shot and killed by Israeli soldiers during an Israeli offensive on Nablus, in the northern part of the occupied West Bank.

The Palestinian Health Ministry has confirmed that Israeli soldiers killed eleven Palestinians and injured more than 102, including six in critical condition, during the Wednesday invasion of Nablus.

One of the slain Palestinians, Abdul-Hadi Al-Ashqar, 61, was sent to the Najah National University where his son, Elias, who works as a nurse at the Emergency Unit, was shocked to see his father there, and despite all efforts, the father died in his arms.

Another of those killed, Anan Shawkat Ennab, 66, was rushed to a hospital in Nablus, suffering the severe effects of tear gas inhalation. All efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, and he was declared dead.

The soldiers also killed and injured many Palestinians who were trying to seek shelter from their gunfire.

Three journalists are among the wounded Palestinians.

The slain Palestinians, as officially confirmed by the Palestinian Health Ministry, are:

  1. Anan Shawkat Ennab, 66.
  2. Adnan Sabe’ Ba’ara, 72.
  3. Mohammad Khaled Anbousi, 25.
  4. Tamer Nimir Ahmad Minawi, 33.
  5. Mos’ab Monir Mohammad Oweiss, 26.
  6. Husam Bassam Isleem, 24.
  7. Mohammad Omar Abu Kabr Al-Juneidi, 23.
  8. Walid Riyad Hussein Dakheel, 23.
  9. Abdul-Hadi Abdul-Aziz Ashqar, 61.
  10. Mohammad Farid Sha’ban, 16.
  11. Jasser Jamil Abdul-Wahab Qaneer, 23.

Of the wounded:
– 47 Palestinians, including three who suffered life-threatening wounds, were rushed to Rafidia governmental hospital.
– 20 Palestinians, including one who suffered life-threatening wounds to the back and abdomen, were rushed to Nablus Speciality Hospital.
– 15 Palestinians, including three who suffered life-threatening wounds, were rushed to the Najah Hospital.
– 9 Palestinians were shot with live fire and were rushed to the Women’s Union Hospital.
– 11 Palestinians were shot with live fire and were rushed to the Arab Specialty Hospital.
– More than 250 Palestinians suffered the effects of tear gas inhalation, and other minor wounds.
The Israeli army said two of its soldiers were injured during exchanges of fire with Palestinian fighters in Nablus.

The massacre took place when several armored Israeli military vehicles invaded the Old City of Nablus, Palestinians in the northern part of the occupied West Bank, and opened fire with live ammunition on the crowds of Palestinian civilians that were in the area.

The soldiers were opening fire at the Palestinians from small openings in their heavily armored jeeps that barely fit the barrel of the automatic rifles.

Media sources said the soldiers surrounded a home in the Sheikh Mosallam neighborhood to abduct several Palestinians, leading to protests, and exchanges of fire between the army and Palestinian resistance fighters in the Old City and surrounding areas.

The soldiers fired a barrage of live ammunition, gas bombs, and concussion grenades at the Palestinians protesting the invasion and also targeted journalists and medics with live fire.

The wounded journalists are Omar Istaitiyah, who suffered a bullet fragment wound to the ear, Mohammad Khatib, who was shot in the arm, and Ahmad Khalaf, who suffered the severe effects of tear gas inhalation.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said the soldiers encircled the home and surrounding area and prevented its medics from reaching the wounded to be able to provide medical care.

The denial of medics is a direct violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention – but despite this fact, Israeli soldiers frequently prevent medics from reaching wounded Palestinians.

Israeli sources said the soldiers and undercover officers invaded Nablus to abduct a “wanted Palestinian” and added that the Palestinian that they were pursuing was shot while fleeing the area in his car.

All hospitals in Nablus remained on high alert due to the offensive and the number of injuries, especially since almost all of the wounded Palestinians were shot with live fire, including expanding bullets, to the upper body. As a result, hospitals called on the Palestinians to donate blood to the seriously wounded.

Montaser Mohammad Shawwa

February 20, 2023: Montaser Mohamamd Thieb Shawwa, 16, died from serious wounds he suffered on February 8  after the army invaded Nablus, in the northern part of the occupied West Bank.

The Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed Montaser’s death and said an Israeli soldier shot him in the head, causing very critical wounds.

The Health Ministry added that the Israeli bullet struck Montaser behind his ear and exited through his mouth.

The Ministry also said that the child arrived at Rafidia Governmental Hospital in Nablus without a pulse or heartbeat, was resuscitated before surgery, and remained in intensive care hooked to respiratory machines.

The Health Ministry said the child’s killing brings the death toll to fifty since the beginning of this year to 45 Palestinians, including twelve children and one woman, in addition to a detainee who died from medical neglect, while paramilitary colonizers killed four Palestinians.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said the soldiers fatally shot Amir ِAla’ Bastami, 22, with a live round in the abdomen, in addition to shooting five other Palestinians with live rounds and two with rubber-coated steel bullets.

PRCS medics rushed the young man to Rafidia Hospital in Nablus, but he succumbed to his serious wounds despite all efforts to resuscitate him.

Palestine TV said the Israeli invasion lasted for five hours and was carried out by dozens of army vehicles that advanced into Nablus from the city’s northern, western, and southern parts. The soldiers also invaded several buildings and occupied rooftops before using them as firing posts.

During the invasion, the soldiers exchanged fire with Palestinian fighters, especially when they surrounded a building on Sufian Street and shot two before abducting them.

The Israeli army said its soldiers arrested two young men, Osama Tawil, and Abdul-Kamel Jouri, both are members of the Lions’ Den unified armed resistance group, and alleged that the two were responsible for killing a soldier, Ido Baruch, in a shooting near Shavei Shomron illegal colony, near Nablus, on October 11, 2022.

On October 10, 2022, the Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed the death of Mahmoud Mohammad Sammoudi, 12, who, on September 28, was shot and seriously injured by Israel army fire when the soldiers also killed four young Palestinian men in Jenin and Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank.

Hamza Amjad Al-Ashqar

Hama AshqarFebruary 07, 2023: Hamza Amjad Al-Ashqar, 17, from Askar Al-Jadid refugee camp in Nablus, in the northern part of the occupied West Bank, after shooting him with a live round in the face. The assassination took place on Tuesday before dawn.

Media sources said several armored military vehicles invaded Nablus, leading to protests by local youth, some of whom threw stones at the invading military force.

The Israeli soldiers in their armored vehicles fired a barrage of live fire, rubber-coated steel bullets, gas bombs, and concussion grenades at the children and youth in the refugee camp.

It is worth mentioning that the soldiers shot the child when the military vehicles were withdrawing from the Housing Projects in the Askar al-Jadid refugee camp in Nablus.

In a video of the invasion, taken by a local Palestinian resident on their phone, the Israeli army vehicles are seen withdrawing, and as they are withdrawing, the soldiers fired several live rounds. Then a man can be heard screaming, “ambulance… ambulance..” when Hamza was shot in the head.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said the soldiers also shot six Palestinians, including one who suffered serious wounds, and caused at least three to suffer the effects of tear gas inhalation.

The PRCS added that the soldiers attacked one of its ambulances and stopped medics who were rushing to provide aid to wounded Palestinians.

In related news, the Al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad, said its fighters managed to down and take possession of an Israeli military drone during the military’s invasion of Nablus.

Palestinian fighters of the Lion’s Den group, which unites fighters from various factions, said they exchanged fire with the soldiers invading Nablus.

On Monday dawn, Israeli soldiers killed five Palestinians, including two siblings, injured many others, and abducted eight, in the Aqabat Jaber refugee camp, south of Jericho, in the northeastern part of the occupied West Bank.

The refugee camps in the West Bank are made up of the three generations of Palestinians displaced in 1948 when Israel was created on the land of historic Palestine, and they were displaced from what had been their homes in what is now Israel.

Since 1948, the state of Israel has never declared its borders and has encroached further and further onto Palestinian land in a blatant attempt to colonize all of historic Palestine while displacing its original inhabitants.

The Israeli army has killed 42 Palestinians, including nine children and one woman, since the beginning of this year.
