Mohammad Tareq dar Yousef

July 26, 2018: Mohammad Tareq dar Yousef, 17, was shot and killed by an armed paramilitary Israeli settler after he allegedly stabbed three Israeli paramilitary settlers, killing one.

Mohammad allegedly managed to climb over the fence into the illegal Israeli settlement of Geva Binyamin, which had been built on stolen Palestinian land which was taken from his village, Kobar, near Ramallah. He then stabbed three people before he was shot and killed.

A 31-year old Israeli colonial settler was killed, identified as Yotam Ovadia. Another unnamed Israeli settler, age 50, was put in critical condition with stab wounds to the upper body, according to Israeli media sources.

Before going to the settlement to carry out the attack, the young Palestinian wrote on his Facebook page, “After all of the injustice the Palestinians continue to face: the killing, the diaspora, the theft of land by force, this injustice still prevails, and many Palestinians are silent – including those who have weapons, and are watching the massacres. Those are the traitors.”

He goes on to say, “You [Palestinians] who own a weapon, remember this is for your enemy, not for use against your own people. Remember the children of Gaza, suffering and dying.” The statement ends, “A salute to the people who defend their land and their honor. And to those who sold their land and betrayed their country, those cowards, you must be ashamed of yourselves. The people of Gaza and Jerusalem are resisting, and you are trying to silence them.”

Dozens of soldiers in armored vehicles surrounded and invaded Kobar, near Ramallah, in the hours following this incident. Protests broke out in the village, and some teens threw stones at the invading soldiers.

The troops invaded Mohammad’s home, surrounding it and demanding that the family leave. It is unknown at the time of this report if the soldiers are planning to carry out a punitive demolition of the alleged assailant’s home, but this is a known and common practice by the Israeli military.

Over the past hundred days, Palestinians have been engaging in largely non-violent protests on a weekly basis in Gaza as part of the ‘Great March of Return’, calling for a return of the Palestinian refugees to their homes in what is now Israel, and an end to the siege on Gaza that has strangled the economy of the tiny coastal strip since 2007.

Israeli forces have killed nearly 150 Palestinian demonstrators during this time, and wounded more than 17,000, many with live ammunition. One Israeli was killed in this time period, in May, by a stone slab that fell on him from a building in a Palestinian town he was invading in the West Bank. The Palestinian resistance in Gaza has held its fire in solidarity with the non-violent demonstrators, but this past Friday a firefight broke out and an Israeli soldier and four Palestinian fighters were killed.

Arkan Tha’er Mizhir

Akram MizherJuly 22, 2018: Arkan Tha’er Mezher, 15, died after being shot with a live round in the chest while protesting the invasion of his refugee camp, Deheishe Camp in Bethlehem, by Israeli soldiers in the pre-dawn hours.

Luay Kahil

July 14, 2018: Luay Kahil, 16, was killed by a bomb dropped by an Israeli F-35 Fighter Jet on a public park in Gaza City.

Luay was killed with his friend Amir an-Nimra, 15. The bombing of the park and the building next to it also caused injuries to at least 25 other Palestinians, including numerous families and children who were walking and playing in the park.

The bombing was part of a wider campaign carried out by the Israeli Airforce on Saturday evening, in which Israel F-16 warplanes fired at least five missiles into the park and a building next to the park, in addition to firing missiles into another area, west of Gaza city, and Palestinian lands in al-Jala’ area, in northern Gaza.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health added that the Israeli missiles also targeted ambulances, the Central Medical Emergency building, and several mobile clinics.

The targeted public square, known as al-Kateeba, is near al-Azhar and the Islamic Universities, and is surrounded by several government ministries and facilities. It is also used by Palestinian factions when they celebrate certain events, such as the anniversaries of their establishment.

Being one of the few green and public squares in Gaza, it has a public park, slides and swings for the children, and is usually overcrowded with people, especially in the evenings after dark, due to the heat.

Besides killing the two children, and wounding at least 25 other Palestinians, the Israeli missiles destroyed one ambulance, damaged nine other ambulances, partially damaged three trucks used for transporting medicine and medical supplies, severely damaged a number of administrative offices for medical emergency and transportation, in addition to causing damage to two civilian transporting vehicles.

Israeli media claimed that 4 Israelis in Sderot were injured when the sound from a Palestinian shell near their house shattered their fish tank, and the glass from the fish tank cut them.

The Palestinian shells have been described as little more than fireworks, which are fired across the border with Israel and usually hit farmland. Occasionally they hit a building, and leave holes of two to three inches, but seldom do they cause damage beyond that.

25 Palestinians were wounded by the Israeli bombing, many of them critically wounded with severe injuries from the missiles dropped by F16 jets on the civilian population. A number of those injured are children and women who were out walking in the park when the bombs were dropped, according to Ashraf al-Qedra of the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

The latest escalation in violence by Israeli forces follows a three month period in which Israeli forces repeatedly attacked non-violent protests with live ammunition, massacring 137 Palestinians, and wounding more than 15,000 others, since the outbreak of the protests, on March 30th 2018.

On Monday July 9th, the Israeli authorities escalated their economic siege of Gaza by completely sealing the Kerem Shalom commercial crossing, which was the only way that food and medical supplies had been able to enter Gaza apart from underground tunnels.

The Great March of Return protests began on March 30, for the commemoration of Land Day, when, in 1976, six Palestinian citizens of Israel were killed by Israeli forces, after protesting the confiscation of their land.

Demonstrations reached a peak on May 14, which marked 70 years since the Nakba – the ethnic cleansing of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, by Zionist militias – upon which more than 60 protesters were shot dead by the Israeli forces.

The Great March of Return protests began on March 30, for the commemoration of Land Day, when, in 1976, six Palestinian citizens of Israel were killed by Israeli forces, after protesting the confiscation of their land.

Demonstrations reached a peak on May 14th, 2018, which marked 70 years since the Nakba – the ethnic cleansing of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians by Zionist militias. It was also the day that Donald Trump moved the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, thereby denying the right to exist of the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians living in the city.

On May 14th, Israeli forces committed a massacre against the unarmed demonstrators in Gaza, killing 60.

Since then, over 137 Palestinians have been killed and some 15,000 others injured by Israeli forces attacking protests in Gaza since March 30th 2018.

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) issued a detailed account of the assassination of Othman, and a condemnation of the shooting of the clearly unarmed protester.

Yasser Amjad Abu Naja

June 29, 2018: Yasser Amjad Mousa Abu Naja, 14, was killed by Israeli soldiers who shot him in the head at a protest in eastern Khuza’a town, near Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli bullet caused a laceration to his brain, and he immediately succumbed to the wound, and died on the scene.

In using excessive lethal force against the peaceful protesters in eastern Gaza Strip for the 11th Friday in a row, Israeli forces killed 2 Palestinian civilians, including Yasser.

Dr. Ashraf al-Qedra, the spokesperson of the Health Ministry in Gaza, has confirmed that Israeli soldiers killed two Palestinians, including a child, and injured 415 others, including 11 children, two women (one of whom is a journalist) and three medics, in the “Great Return March” processions along the eastern parts of the Gaza Strip.

Dr. al-Qedra said the soldiers killed Mohammad Fawzi Mohammad al-Hamayda, 24, after shooting him with live rounds in the abdomen and his leg, east of Rafah, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.

He added that the soldiers killed a child, identified as Yasser Amjad Abu Naja, 14, east of Khan Younis, also in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.

The official also said that the soldiers injured more than 415 Palestinians, including 136 who were moved to hospitals for further treatment, and 279 who received treatment in field clinics.

Three of the wounded Palestinians suffered life-threatening injuries and are still in serious condition.

The Israeli army started firing at the protesters after dozens of young men burnt tires near the border fence, along the eastern parts of the Gaza Strip, and launched balloons carrying the colors of the Palestinian flag, and pictures of Palestinians who were killed by the army since the protests started on Land Day, on March 30th, 2018.

Friday’s protest, part of ongoing processions for the fourteenth consecutive week, was dubbed “From Gaza to the West Bank, one fate, one blood,” expressing rejection of any attempt to isolate the Gaza Strip, and consider it a separate entity from the rest of occupied Palestine.

The soldiers used sniper rifles to target the unarmed protesters, in addition to firing dozens of rubber-coated steel bullets, concussion grenades and high-velocity gas bombs.

Furthermore, the soldiers deliberately targeted a Palestinian Red Crescent ambulance in Malka area, east of Gaza city, inflicting damage and causing its team to suffer the severe effects of teargas inhalation.

The army attacked the protesters in border areas across the eastern side of the coastal region, from areas east of Rafah and Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, to Gaza city, Deir al-Balah in Central Gaza, in addition to Beit Hanoun and Beit Lahia, in the northern part.

It is worth mentioning that a local folk-dance troupe (Dabka) danced to Palestinian and Arab music, expressing the steadfastness and determination to continue the struggle until achieve the internationally guaranteed legitimate rights of the Palestinian people of liberation, independence and sovereignty.

Following a decision by the highest political and military echelons, the Israeli forces decided to continue to use excessive force against the peaceful protesters, who pose no threat to the life of the soldiers.

At approximately 15:00, hundreds of civilians, including women, children and entire families, started swarming to 5 encampments established by the Supreme National Authority for the Great March of Return and Breaking Siege in eastern Rafah City; Khuza’ah in Khan Younis; al-Boreij in the Central Gaza Strip; Shija’eyya neighborhood in Gaza City; and eastern Jabalia in the northern Gaza Strip.

The number of participants gradually increased, reaching a peak at approximately 16:30, in the five demonstration areas, and they were estimated at thousands of men, elders, women and children.

According to the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), the protesters were raising flags, chanting slogans and national songs, and flying kites, while hundreds of them, including children and women, approached the border fence, set fire to tires and attempted to throw stones at the Israeli forces.

Moreover, the protesters removed the barbed wire fence established by the Israeli forces inside the Palestinian territories around 50 meters away from the main border fence.

The Israeli shooting, which continued until 19:30, resulted in the killing of 2 civilians, including a child, in eastern Rafah and Khan Younis respectively, both south of the Gaza Strip when they were among other protestors around 100-200 meters away from the border fence.

In addition to Yasser, Mohamed Fawzi Mohamed al-Hamiydah (24) was hit with a live bullet to the abdomen when he was in eastern Rafah and killed.

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) condemns this new crime committed by the Israeli forces, believing it is as a result of Israel’s enjoying impunity thanks to the U.S. and so encouraging the Israeli forces to commit further crimes upon an official decision by the highest military and political echelons.
