Jamal ZibdaMay 12, 2021: Jamal Mohammad Sa’id Zibda, 65, was killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting him and his son Osama.

According to US news agency CBS, Jamal had studied at the Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Science at Virginia Tech, and returned to his home in Gaza in 1994. His son Osama, 33, who was also killed in the airstrike, was born in the US and was a US citizen.

Israeli media sources claimed that Osama had been involved in helping Palestinian resistance groups develop their rocket technology.

He was among more than 30 Palestinians killed on May 12th, most of whom were killed while in their homes, huddled with their families as Israeli bombs dropped all around them.

This was the third straight day of massive Israeli bombardment and shelling of Palestinian homes, structures, and facilities, leading to the death of at least 30 Palestinians on May 12th alone, including children.

The Israeli missiles struck homes, residential buildings, infrastructure, streets, and many other facilities.

The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights, which documented these attacks, has called upon the international Criminal Court to open an investigation into the occupation’s crimes during this military aggression, and reiterates its call upon the High Contracting Parties to the 1949 Fourth Geneva Convention to fulfil their obligations under Article 1; i.e., to respect and ensure respect for the Convention in all circumstances and their obligations under Article 146 to prosecute persons alleged to commit grave breaches of the Fourth Geneva Convention. These grave breaches constitute war crimes under Article 147 of the same Convention and Protocol (I) Additional to the Geneva Conventions regarding the guarantee of Palestinian civilians’ right to protection in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (West Bank, Gaza Strip, Golan Heights).
