Ammar Taiseer Mohammad al-’Amour

Ammar al-AmourMay 12, 2021: Ammar Taiseer Mohammad al-’Amour, 10, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in the Gaza Strip.

Defense for Children International Palestine said that a US-sourced Israeli Apache attack helicopter killed Hamada Attia Abed al-Amour, 13, and his 10-year-old cousin, Ammar Taiseer Mohammad al-Amour.

The pair were with another young relative when the attack helicopter “fired two thermal flares and then a missile in the direction of the children” in al-Fukharia village east of Khan Younis on Wednesday.

The surviving child was critically injured.

“At the time of the missile attack,” the street on which the children were walking “was open and completely quiet,” Defense for Children International Palestine said.

He was among more than 30 Palestinians killed overnight on May 12th, most of whom were killed while in their homes, huddled with their families as Israeli bombs dropped all around them.

This was the third straight day of massive Israeli bombardment and shelling of Palestinian homes, structures, and facilities, leading to the death of at least 30 Palestinians on May 12th alone, including children.

On the same day Israeli bombs killed at least twenty additional Palestinian people during ongoing bombardment and shelling targeting all parts of the besieged and impoverished Gaza Strip. (The number does not include names who are still being verified)

In the West Bank, the soldiers killed on Wednesday night, a Palestinian security officer, identified as Mohammad Omar Sa’id Najjar, 36, near the town of Tal, south of Nablus, in northern West Bank, after the army claimed he opened fire at the soldiers.

On Wednesday at dawn, the soldiers killed a Palestinian child, Rashid Muhammad Abu Ara, 16, in the village of Aqaba, in the district of Tubas.

During the 11-day Israeli assault on Gaza between May 10th and 21st, 2021, 247 Palestinians were killed, including 66 children and 39 women; 1417 wounded, including 277 women and 412 children. 9 Israelis, including 2 children, were killed during the same time period.

The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights, which documented these attacks, has called upon the international Criminal Court to open an investigation into the occupation’s crimes during this military aggression, and reiterates its call upon the High Contracting Parties to the 1949 Fourth Geneva Convention to fulfil their obligations under Article 1; i.e., to respect and ensure respect for the Convention in all circumstances and their obligations under Article 146 to prosecute persons alleged to commit grave breaches of the Fourth Geneva Convention. These grave breaches constitute war crimes under Article 147 of the same Convention and Protocol (I) Additional to the Geneva Conventions regarding the guarantee of Palestinian civilians’ right to protection in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (West Bank, Gaza Strip, Golan Heights).
