April 27, 2018: Abdul-Salam Bakr, 29, was killed by Israeli forces east of Gaza City, during the fifth Friday of protests for the ‘Great March of Return’.

Abdul-Salam was one of three young men and one child shot and killed by Israeli snipers on April 27^th . The snipers fired live ammunition indiscriminately at the unarmed crowds of protesters, according to eyewitnesses.

The Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed that Israeli soldiers killed four young Palestinians, including a 14-year old child, on April 27^th, and injured more than 995, including at least 178 who were shot with live fire.

In addition to Abdul-Salam, the the soldiers also killed Mohammad Amin al-Moqyd, 21, from Gaza City, and Khalil Na’im Atallah, 22, also from Gaza.

According to Ashraf al-Qidra of the Palestinian Ministry of Health, 18 medics and medical personnel were among those wounded on Friday.

Al-Qidra added that Israeli forces specifically targeted medical service points twice with an unidentified gas east of the al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza. This appeared to be a new type of gas that caused those who inhaled it to suffer from severe convulsions. A number of these victims had to be hospitalized.

175 of the wounded Palestinians were injured in Northern Gaza, 251 in Gaza city area, 200 in Central Gaza, 146 in Khan Younis and 183 in Rafah.

On Friday night, Israeli war jets fired missiles at a site that they claimed was run by a Palestinian resistance group, west of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza.

The army also fired missiles at two Palestinian fishing boats in Gaza port. Media sources in Gaza said the boats are parts of preparations for welcoming an upcoming flotilla to challenge the illegal Israeli siege on Gaza.

The ongoing ‘Great Return March’ protests which started on Palestinian Land Day (March 30th) are meant to bring attention to the fact that millions of Palestinians are imprisoned in the Gaza Strip, unable to return to their homes in what is now Israel. Palestinians make up the largest refugee population on earth.

Since March 30th, Israeli forces have killed 44 Palestinian protesters, and wounded more than five thousand.

An international outcry against the continued shooting of civilian protesters has included political leaders, politicians, grassroots leaders and humanitarian organizations around the world. But this outcry has not reached the US, where politicians have been largely silent on the issue.

Irish and South African politicians have been leading the call for justice for Palestinians, calling the Israeli government an ‘apartheid state’ much like South Africa in the 1980s.

In response to Israel’s fifth straight week of attacking unarmed demonstrators at the border, the UN Commissioner for Human Rights, Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein, issued a statement that, “The loss of life is deplorable, and the staggering number of injuries caused by live ammunition only confirms the sense that excessive force has been used against demonstrators – not once, not twice, but repeatedly.”

April 6, 2018: Hamza Abdul-al, 20, was killed by Israeli forces who shot him at a border protest in central Gaza. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and died later that same night.

He was one of two Palestinian civilians who were injured on Friday at the border protests, and died of their injuries overnight – bringing the total number of Palestinian civilians killed Friday to ten.

Israeli soldiers attacked protesters who were gathered in the north, east, and southern borders of Gaza.

Hamza died Friday night of injuries sustained during the protest earlier that day. Dr. Ashraf al-Qidra of the Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed his death at the hospital where he was taken after being shot with a live round by Israeli forces.

Following the death of the two Palestinians, Dr. al-Qidra said that the Israeli soldiers have killed ten Palestinian civilians in Gaza on Friday April 6^th and injured 1,354, including 491 shot with live rounds and expanding bullets. 33 of those who were shot are still in critical condition.

Doctors at the Gaza Central Hospital reported that many of those who were injured by live fire were hit by expanding bullets, which tear apart internal organs and tissues once they enter the body. These types of bullets are illegal under international law for use against a civilian population.

April 6, 2018: Yasser Mortaja, 31, a photojournalist, was killed by Israeli forces who shot him in his abdomen – below his ‘PRESS’ flack jacket, while he was out covering a border protest.

He was one of two Palestinian civilians who were injured on Friday at the border protests, and died of their injuries overnight – bringing the total number of Palestinian civilians killed Friday to ten.

Israeli soldiers attacked protesters who were gathered in the north, east, and southern borders of Gaza.

Dr. Ashraf al-Qedra, spokesperson of the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza, said that photojournalist Yasser Mortaja, 31, died of a gunshot wound he sustained on Friday while documenting the protest. He was wearing a Press vest and was clearly performing his duty as a journalist when he was targeted by the Israeli sharpshooters stationed at the military base on the Gaza border.

Dr. al-Qedra reported that Mortaja was shot with a live round in his abdomen while covering a protest in east Khan Younis, near the border fence that imprisons Gaza. He was rushed to the hospital, where he died after several hours.

The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate condemned the killing of Mortaja, and called on international journalist organizations to take a stand for the journalists in Gaza, who are being directly targeted by Israeli forces. In addition to killing Mortaja, the soldiers shot and wounded seven journalists who were covering the protests in Gaza on Friday April 6^th.

The Syndicate said they intend to take the case of Mortaja to international court, and to international organizations, and to call on the United Nations to stop the violations, and to implement their own resolutions condemning Israel’s repeated attacks on journalists.

In addition to those killed, 992 others were injured in several parts of the coastal region. An eighth Palestinian died from serious wounds suffered last Friday.

Dr. Ashraf al-Qedra, the spokesperson of the Health Ministry in Gaza confirmed that the soldiers killed Osama Khamis Qdeih, 38, from Abasan al-Kabeera town, east of Khan Younis.

He added that Qdeih died from serious wounds he suffered after the soldiers shot him with live fire, east of Khan Younis.

The soldiers killed Ala’ Yahya az-Zamily, 17, after shooting him with a live round in his neck, east of Rafah. Ala’ was from Shaboura refugee camp, in Rafah.

Mohammad Sa’id Mousa al-Hajj Saleh, 33, from Rafah, in southern Gaza Strip, was shot with live Israeli army fire in the abdomen and chest, east of the city, during evening hours.

The Ministry stated that the child, identified as Hussein Mohammad Madhi, 16, was killed by Israeli army fire, on Friday evening, east of Gaza city.

Another Palestinian, identified as Sidqi Faraj Abu ‘Oteiwi, 45, from Nusseirat refugee camp, in central Gaza, was also killed by Israeli army fire.

Also, the soldiers killed Ibrahim al-‘Orr, 20, in central Gaza.

Dr. Ashraf al-Qedra, spokesperson of the Health Ministry in Gaza, said the soldiers shot 1070 Palestinians, 551 of them were rushed to the make-shift clinics on Palestinian lands hundreds of meters away from the border fence.

He added that 442 wounded Palestinians were rushed to governmental hospitals, and 77 to private hospitals. Among the injured are 48 children, and 12 women.

25 Palestinians suffered life-threatening injuries, and 239 suffered moderate wounds, in several parts of the Gaza Strip.

The soldiers also continued to deliberately target the Palestinian medic, and their ambulance, especially east of Rafah, with Gaza bombs, wounding seven of them.

Furthermore, the army used planes and drones in firing a barrage of gas bombs at the Palestinians even in areas not close to the border fence.

Dozens of Palestinians suffered the severe effects of teargas inhalation and received the needed treatment in make-shift hospitals near the border fence, across the eastern part of the Gaza Strip.

The soldiers also targeted dozens of medics with gas bombs, east of the al-Boreij refugee camp, in central Gaza, wounding many of them.

The Palestinians burnt dozens of tires near the border fence, in order to cloud the vision of the soldiers, especially the sharpshooters, who barricaded themselves behind huge sand hills across the border fence.

The army also used planes to extinguish the burnt tires, in addition to using water hoses and even fans to send the smoke back to the Palestinian side.

One of the wounded Palestinians is a journalist, identified as Yasser Mortaja, who was shot with a life round in his chest, while a female journalist, identified as Islam Za’noun, suffered the effects of teargas inhalation, despite wearing clearly marked press vests; both were injured east of Khan Younis.

The soldiers were witnessed deliberately firing a barrage of gas bombs, including high velocity, long range bombs, at crowds of protesters, in addition to firing many live rounds at them.

The soldiers also targeted many journalists with live fire and gas bombs, including during live coverage by the al-Mayadeen TV.

Furthermore, the army used planes and drones in firing a barrage of gas bombs at the Palestinians even in areas not close to the border fence.

Dozens of Palestinians suffered the severe effects of teargas inhalation and received the needed treatment in make-shift hospitals near the border fence, across the eastern part of the Gaza Strip.

The soldiers also targeted dozens of medics with gas bombs, east of the al-Boreij refugee camp, in central Gaza, wounding many of them.

The Palestinians burnt dozens of tires near the border fence, in order to cloud the vision of the soldiers, especially the sharpshooters, who barricaded themselves behind huge sand hills across the border fence.

The army also used planes to extinguish the burnt tires, in addition to using water hoses and even fans to send the smoke back to the Palestinian side.

In related news, the soldiers shot three Palestinians, including one who suffered a head injury, in Ramallah, in central West Bank.

The soldiers also injured many Palestinians in Hebron, in the southern part of the occupied West Bank.
