Ahmad Mohammad Atatra

May 13, 2023: Ahmad Mohammad Taiseer Atatra, 30, was killed by Israeli soldiers at a military roadblock southwest of Jenin, in the northern part of the West Bank, when they claimed he tried to stab him before firing at least 30 rounds at him.

Media sources said Ahmad was riding his bicycle while trying to cross the Reehan military roadblock, known as “Checkpoint 300,” near the illegal Shaked Israeli colony.

Eyewitnesses said the soldiers fired a barrage of live fire at the Palestinian, leaving him bleeding on the ground without first aid after closing the entire area.

Palestinian medics were much later allowed to reach him after it was clear he was dead and took him to a Palestinian hospital in Jenin.

In a brief statement, the Israeli occupation army’s spokesperson only said the man “ran towards Border Police officers while carrying a knife,” adding that the soldiers “neutralized him,” a term loosely used by the army to justify fatally, and in some cases seriously, wounding the Palestinians.

His family said he was returning to his home after working on their agricultural land, isolated behind the illegal Annexation Wall, adding that he was riding his bicycle due to the short distance between the home and the family’s lands.

Earlier the same day, the soldiers killed Saed Jihad Shaker Mesha, 32, and Adnan Wasim Yousef Al-A’raj, 19, after shooting them with live fire in the head in the Balata refugee camp east of Nablus in the northern part of the occupied West Bank.

Ahmad was from Ya’bad town, west of Jenin, in the northern part of the occupied West Bank. Source: IMEMC
