Dalia Yasser al-Nabahin

August 07, 2022: Dalia Yasser Nimr al-Nabahin, 13, was killed after the Israeli army fired missiles targeting homes in the Gaza Strip.

Mohammad was one of 17 Palestinian children confirmed killed during the Israeli military’s three-day military offensive on the Gaza Strip August 5 – 7.

An explosion on August 7 struck the Nabahin family home in Al-Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip around 7:05 p.m., according to documentation collected by DCIP. Three Palestinian children were killed in the explosion: 14-year-old Dalia, 12-year-old Mohammad, and nine-year-old Ahmad Yasser Nemer Nabaheen. The children’s father, Yasser, was also killed in the explosion, and a fourth sibling, Bilal, sustained moderate injuries.

Dalia had dreams of becoming a doctor, and the family used to call her “the doctor of the family” to encourage and support her to follow her dreams. Her brother Bilal said she was an excellent student, and loved painting. She also used to help her mother around the house while her other sisters were busy studying. “She loved her family, and never complained,” Bilal said.

Their father, Yasser, was a captain of Gaza’s nautical police. “He had an honorable career of heroism and fighting against the occupation,” Yasser’s son Bilal, 23, said.

At the front of his home, Yasser had a garden where he used to sit with his family under the trees, and would tend to the garden and water the plants with care.

The home is located east of Al-Bureij Refugee Camp, close to the borders.

On Sunday, Yasser decided to go sit in his garden, and received one relative visiting from the house next door. After the guest left, Yasser started watering the trees with his sons. The airstrike targeted them all.

Yasser was a husband and a father of 8. Half of the children, two girls and two boys, survived because they were inside the house, but one of them was injured.

Also on August 7, an Israeli drone-fired missile struck Al-Fallujah cemetery, west of Jabalia refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip, around 7 p.m., according to documentation collected by Defense for Children International. The Israeli airstrike killed five Palestinian children: Jameel Najmuddin Jameel Najim, 3; Hamed Heidar Hamed Najim, 16; Jameel Ihab Jameel Najim, 13; Mohammad Salah Hamed Najim, 16; and Nathmi Fayez Abdulhadi Abu Karsh, 15.

The Israeli military launched airstrikes across the Gaza Strip on August 5, killing at least 44 people and injuring at least 350, according to Al Jazeera. A ceasefire went into effect at 11:30 p.m. on August 7. The Israeli military offensive came just days after Israeli forces arrested a senior Islamic Jihad leader in the West Bank city of Jenin and killed 16-year-old Dirar Riyad Lufti Al-Haj Saleh, also in Jenin, who was protesting the Israeli military’s incursion into Jenin refugee camp.

International humanitarian law prohibits indiscriminate and disproportionate attacks and requires all parties to an armed conflict to distinguish between military targets, civilians, and civilian objects. Israel as the occupying power in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including the Gaza Strip, is required to protect the Palestinian civilian population from violence.

Israeli authorities have imposed a closure policy against the Gaza Strip since 2007 by strictly controlling and limiting the entry and exit of individuals; maintaining harsh restrictions on imports including food, construction materials, fuel, and other essential items; as well as prohibiting exports. Israel continues to maintain complete control over the Gaza Strip’s borders, airspace, and territorial waters.

Since 2008, Israel has waged four wars on the Palestinian territory, killing nearly 4,000 people – one-quarter of them children.

According to data compiled by Defense for Children International, at least 2,200 children have been killed by the Israeli military and Israeli settlers across the Occupied Palestinian Territory since 2000 – the beginning of the second intifada.

July 03, 2022: Kamel Abdullah Alawna, 17, died of serious wounds he suffered a day earlier after Israeli soldiers shot him in Jaba’ town, southwest of the northern West Bank city of Jenin.

Medical sources said Kamel was shot with two expanding bullets, one in the abdomen, causing severe damage to his liver and intestines, and one in the right elbow.

His brother Dr. Mo’taz Alawna said Kamel was instantly admitted to surgery and remained in the Intensive Care Unit until he succumbed to his wounds.

The Palestinian was shot by the soldiers while walking in an area where protests had been taking place after several army jeeps invaded the town.

The soldiers fired many live rounds, rubber-coated steel bullets, gas bombs, and concussion grenades at the protesters and surrounding areas.

Kamel was born in 2004 and was named after his brother, who was killed by the army in 2003; his father is a former political prisoner whom Israel imprisoned for several years.

He was a high school student taking final exams, including an exam scheduled for Monday, July 4.

After his death, thousands of Palestinians marched in his funeral procession in front of Ibn Sina Specialized Hospital in the town and chanted against the escalating Israeli violations in occupied Palestine before burying him at the local cemetery.

On Saturday, July 2, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) reported that the Palestinian woman, Sa’diyya Farajallah, 68, the oldest female detainee imprisoned by Israel, died in an Israeli prison less than seven months after Israeli soldiers abducted her.

Mohammad Abdullah Hamed

June 25, 2022: Mohammad Abdullah Saleh Hamed, 16, died of wounds sustained the previous day during protests near Ramallah, when he was shot by invading Israeli forces.

The Palestinian District Coordination Office (DCO) confirmed that a Palestinian child who was shot and seriously injured by Israeli army fire near Ramallah Friday succumbed to his wounds at an Israeli hospital on Saturday dawn.

The DCO said the Israeli side officially informed that Mohammad Abdullah Saleh Hamed, 16, from Silwad town, east of the central West Bank city of Ramallah, had succumbed to his serious wounds.

The soldiers shot Hammad during protests that took place after several Israeli military jeeps invaded Silwad.

Talking to Palestine TV, Silwad Mayor, Raed Nimir, told reporters that Mohammad was shot with a bullet in the face near bypass road #60 and added that his corpse would be transferred to his family Saturday before the official burial ceremony was held on the same day.

At the time of his injury, Abdullah’s name or age remained unknown; however, his condition was known to the Palestinians to be serious before the army took him away.

Nimir added that the soldiers invaded the town several times within just a few hours after shooting the child, leading to protests. He also said the town is subject to daily invasions and violations by the soldiers.

Local sources said several military vehicles invaded the town before the army closed roads and interrogated many Palestinians.

They added that many youngsters protested the invasion before the soldiers fired live rounds, rubber-coated steel bullets, and gas bombs.

Medical sources in Silwad said the soldiers shot a young man with live fire before abducting him and caused several others to suffer the effects of tear gas inhalation.

On Friday night, the soldiers invaded the Jabal ash-Sharaf area in the southern West Bank city of Hebron, attacked a wedding party, and conducted violent searches.

After his death was confirmed, hundreds of residents marched in Silwad at dawn while chanting against the ongoing illegal Israeli occupation and escalating Israeli violations against the Palestinians.

The Palestinians in Silwad declared a two-day strike in the town to mourn the slain child.

Gheith Rafiq Yameen

May 24, 2022: Gheith Rafiq Yameen, 16, was shot and killed by Israeli forces in Nablus during a pre-dawn invasion. At least seventy-five Palestinians were injured during protests that took place after dozens of soldiers invaded Nablus in the northern part of the occupied West Bank.

The Health Ministry said the child, Gheith Rafiq Yameen, 16, was rushed to Rafidia hospital in Nablus, suffering a serious headshot wound.

Gheith was instantly rushed to surgery but succumbed to his serious wounds, the Ministry added.

Ahmad Jibril, the head of the Emergency Department at the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS), said the soldiers shot fifteen Palestinians with rubber-coated steel bullets.

Jibril added that the army caused forty-one Palestinians to suffer the effects of tear gas inhalation, one who suffered burns due to concussion grenades and another young man who fell while the soldiers chased him.

The soldiers also targeted a PRCS ambulance with gas bombs when the medics rushed a pregnant woman in labor to a Rafidia hospital in Nablus.

The protests and injuries occurred when the army accompanied many buses of illegal Israeli colonizers into Joseph’s Tomb, east of Nablus.

Media sources in Nablus said several Palestinian fighters exchanged fire with the invading soldiers.

ِAlso, illegal Israeli colonizers fired many live rounds and hurled stones at Palestinian cars in Huwwara town, south of Nablus.

Jews, Muslims, Christians, and Samaritans revere Joseph the patriarch; however, the Israeli military allows Jews to visit as part of organized pilgrimages, despite the site being in Area A, where the Palestinian Authority supposedly has full control. The Israeli military that governs Palestinians in the West Bank under martial law prohibits Muslims from worshiping at the site.

Ultra-orthodox and nationalist Jews constantly try to visit the shrine without approval, as many Jews believe the tomb to be the final resting place of the biblical figure in the Old Testament.

Palestinians believe that Joseph’s Tomb is the funerary monument to Sheikh Yousif Dweikat, a local religious figure.
