Bashar Zubeidat

January 11th, 2021: Bashar Zubeidat, 19, died Monday from wounds sustained the previous Friday, when he was shot by Israeli police with multiple live rounds.

Bashar was a Palestinian with Israeli citizenship. In response to his murder, hundreds of Palestinians with Israeli citizenship took to the streets on Tuesday to protest his death, and several other recent deaths of Palestinians at the hands of Israeli police and security forces.

On Monday, doctors at Rambam Israeli Hospital in Haifa reported that Zubeidat, from Basmat Tab’oun village, near Haifa, died from his serious wounds he suffered, on Friday, January 8, 2021.

Mossawa Advocacy Center for Rights Of Arab Citizens of Israel said it contacted the Investigation Department of the Israeli Police to obtain information about the fatal shooting, and was informed of the allegation that the slain young man was sitting in the passenger seat of a car, and that the driver tried to drive away when the police ordered him to stop. The Center also reported that, during the chase, the police fired many sporadic rounds of live fire at the car, and injured Zubeidat, before detaining two others who were in the car.

The Israeli Police claim that a car rammed a police officer who tried to stop the vehicle in Haifa, before fleeing the scene, and added that the police later located the vehicle, but the driver tried to flee before the officers opened fire again at the car. The police told reporters that they were later informed that two persons were injured and were receiving treatment at Rambam hospital.

Rifqa Jamil

July 7, 2019: Rifqa Jamil, 89, died of an injury sustained two months prior when Palestinian resistance fighters fired shells into her area. She fell while running to a bomb shelter, and injured her back.

Jamil was a resident of Ashkelon, a city on the coast of southern Israel which was once home to tens of thousands of Palestinian families who are now refugees in the walled-in Gaza Strip.

She was also the widow of an Israeli soldier, who was killed during the 1973 War against Palestinians and Arab states.

Her injury was sustained during the escalation two months ago, in which Israeli forces killed dozens of Palestinians through airstrikes and mortar shells, and Palestinian resistance fighters responded by firing shells into Israel, killing three Israeli civilians.

Ziad Alhamamda

May 5, 2019: Ziad Alhamamda, was killed by a Palestinian shell while working at a factory in Ashkelon.

As Israeli forces continue their massive escalation in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian resistance groups responded by launching hundreds of small-scale rockets across the border between Gaza and Israel, killing four Israelis and wounding at least eight.

Ziad was one of the four killed on the Israeli side. He was a Palestinian Bedouin from the unrecognized Negev village of as-Sawaween.

Moshe Feder, 68, was killed in Kfar Saba by an anti-tank mortar fired from Gaza across the border.

Also Sunday, Pinchas Menachem Prezuazman, 21, was killed by a rocket fired by Palestinian resistance fighters toward the Israeli city of Ashdod, on the coast of Israel, on Sunday evening.

According to Ynet, “Prezuazman was walking in the street when he heard the air-raid siren and ran to seek cover in a nearby building but was hit by shrapnel when he entered the stairwell.”

In Ashkelon, a city located about 14 kilometers north of Gaza, Moshe Agadi, 58, was killed in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Israeli forces have reportedly killed 26 Palestinians during the past three days – four on Friday, four on Saturday, and 18 on Sunday.

According to the Israeli military, an estimated 600 rockets were fired from Gaza toward Israel on Saturday and Sunday, most of which were intercepted by the ‘Iron Dome’ defense system .

A military spokesperson told Ynet, “Two hundred rockets were fired at residential areas, with an interception rate above 86 percent”.

The Palestinian shells are crude and mostly homemade, with no ability to make precise aiming. The damage done by these rockets is far less than the missiles dropped by Israel into the Gaza Strip — although they can be deadly if there is a direct hit.

Wisam Abdul-Majid Shalalda

October 12, 2018: Wisam Abdul-Majid Shalalda, 28, died in an Israeli prison where he had been held prisoner since 2015.

The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) reported that Wisam died in Ayalon Israeli prison, in Ramla.

The PPS added that the circumstances of his death remain unknown, while members of Shalalda’s family said they were only informed that he had a stroke, and were asked to head to Abu Kabeer Israeli Forensic Institute to identify his body.

The PPS said the detainee, a married father of four children, was taken prisoner in 2015, and was sentenced to seven years in prison.

It held Israel responsible for his death, especially due to the extremely bad living conditions the detainees face, the lack of proper medical treatment, and added that the “silence of the international community encourages Israel to continue and escalate its violations.”

It is worth mentioning that Shalalda is the fourth detainee who died in Israeli prisons, or after being detained, since the beginning of this year.

The first is Yassin Saradeeh, 33, who was killed on February 22, 2018, by Israeli soldiers who shot him, then beat him repeatedly while he was lying on the ground.

The second is Aziz ‘Oweisat, 53, who died at an Israeli hospital, on May 20, 2018, from serious complications when he was assaulted by several soldiers in the prison, after they claimed he attacked an officer with a sharp object.

The third is Mohammad Zaghloul al-Khatib, 24, who was killed, on September 18, 2018, by Israeli soldiers who invading his home at dawn, before abducting and repeatedly assaulting him.

Ziv Hagbi

October 7, 2018: Ziv Hagbi, 35, an Israeli settler living in contravention of international law in the West Bank, was shot and killed by a Palestinian assailant in the Industrial Area of Barkan colony, in the northern part of the occupied West Bank.

Israeli sources confirmed that two Israelis were killed in the shooting. In addition to Ziv, Kim Levengrond Yehezkel, 28, was also killed.

The sources added that the Israeli Shabak and the army launched a massive manhunt to find the shooter, identified as Ashraf Waleed Suleiman Na’alwa, 23, from Shweika village, near Tulkarem, in the northern West Bank.

The army invaded Shweika and stormed Ashraf’s family home, before violently searching it, interrogating the family, and taking measurements of their property in preparation for demolishing it as an act of collective punishment.

In the pre-dawn hours the following morning, with Ashraf still at-large, dozens of Israeli soldiers attacked his family home and abducted his mother and two sisters.

“According to Palestinian sources, neither the brother, arrested Sunday, nor the sister have any information related to the attack, but the arrests serve to pressure the assailant to reveal himself,” the Israeli paper Haaretz reported.

Meanwhile hundreds of Palestinians were prevented from entering the Barkan Industrial Zone, the site of Sunday’s shooting attack, located near Ariel settlement, as they arrived for work on Monday.

The soldiers conducted extensive searches of many homes and lands in the area, and abducted a number of Palestinians for questioning in relation to the shooting.

Israeli sources reported that the search to locate and arrest Ashraf was carried out with the assistance and full cooperation of the Palestinian Security Forces.

It quoted an unnamed Palestinian security official telling its reporter that the Israeli army believed that the shooter will likely surrender to the Palestinian security forces rather than the military, to avoid being shot dead by the Israeli soldiers.

The Israeli army, police and security forces, and Israeli political leaders stated that the fatal shooting attack “carried nationalistic motives”. Despite the fact that the Palestinian was recently fired from the factory where he carried out the deadly shooting, they “ruled out [the idea that] the shooting was motivated by this fact.”

Initially, the Israeli army and security establishment said the shooting attack was criminally motivated, but later changed their statement to say that the motivation was political.

Israeli Ynet News said the suspect worked at the Industrial Area for seven months, and carried a permit which was set to expire the following month. The area where the factory is located is in Area C of the West Bank, under full Israeli control.

He reportedly entered the factory carrying a M-16 assault rifle, before shooting and seriously wounding a man and a man, who later succumbed to their wounds, in addition to moderately wounding another woman, 54 years old.

The army said the shooter apparently carried the attack out on his own, as he is not a member of any armed Palestinian group.
