August 10, 2019: Rashad al-Bodeini, was one of four Palestinians shot and killed by Israeli forces for allegedly coming too close to the border fence between Gaza and Israel, east of Dir al-Balah, in the central Gaza Strip.

Israeli forces stationed along Gaza borders to the east of Dir al-Balah reportedly opened fire on a group of Palestinians after they allegedly approached the Israeli-installed barbed-wire fence along Gaza’s border with Israel, shooting and killing four.

The Israeli army then took their corpses away to an unknown location.

A Facebook page managed by the family of one of the slain Palestinians said the four have been identified as Ahmad Ayman Tarabin, Abdullah Ismael Hamayda, Abdullah Ashraf al-Ghamri and Rashad al-Bodeini.

Israeli sources claimed that the group of Palestinians had fired toward the military base at the border, and there was an exchange of fire.

It also said the Palestinians carried AK-47 rifles, hand grenades, and a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, in addition to food.

Israeli daily Haaretz said the army is trying to determine whether the Palestinians “were planning to attack soldiers or civilians.”

The Israeli Ynetnews said that the Golani Brigades that opened fire on the Palestinians are the same Brigade that came under fire two days earlier, when two soldiers were injured.

Following the shooting of the four Palestinians, the Israeli airforce dropped bombs on what they claimed were two observation posts for the Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of the Hamas party.

Military vehicles also invaded the area east of Dir al-Balah and began combing the area.

Israel has imposed a buffer zone inside the Gaza Strip along the border between Gaza and Israel, preventing Palestinians from reaching their lands near the border fence. It regularly opens fire at anyone who enters that buffer zone.

In a fact sheet about Israeli attacks on border areas and their consequences, the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) said, “preventing Palestinians from accessing their lands and fishing areas violates numerous provisions of international human rights law, including the right to work, the right to an adequate standard of living, and the right to the highest attainable standard of health.”

Hani Abu Salah

Hani Abu SalahAugust 1, 2019: Hani Abu Salah, 20, was shot dead before dawn on Thursday by Israeli troops after he allegedly crossed the border between Gaza and Israel. Israeli forces claim that the young man exchanged fire with Israeli soldiers for an hour before they killed him.

The Palestinian was later identified as Hani Abu Salah. According to a statement issued by the Israeli army, the young man came across the border and clashed with the soldiers.

It is worth mentioning that Hani is the brother of Fadi Abu Salah, 20, who was killed by the Israeli army during on May 14, 2018. He was a wheelchair user who lost both of his legs during the Israeli war on Gaza in 2008.

According to the military, one officer sustained a moderate injury, and two other soldiers were slightly injured, and were transferred to the “Soroka” Hospital in Beer Sheva.

The Israeli army also announced that in the aftermath of this killing, they decided to begin firing tank shells toward the Palestinian city of Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip, which led to exchanges of fire with Palestinian fighters in which no injuries were reported.

Eyewitnesses in Gaza reported that the Israeli occupation army fired two shells and light bombs at the border area east of Khuza’a town in Khan Younis after hearing the sound of gunfire. Others also spoke of Israeli planes flying in the area .

Since weekly protests began on the Gaza-Israel border in 2018, at least 297 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces — most of them unarmed civilians participating in non-violent protests at the border. Seven Israelis have been killed by Palestinians during that same time period.

The protests have called for an end to the 12-year long siege of the Gaza Strip, and a return of the Palestinian refugees to their homes in what is now Israel.

Ahmad al-QarraJuly 26, 2019: Ahmad Mohammad al-Qarra, 22, died from serious wounds he suffered in earlier that day when Israeli soldiers shot him during the Great Return March processions.

The Health Ministry said the young man, identified as Ahmad Mohammad al-Qarra, 22, was shot with a live round in his abdomen, suffering serious wounds, and died at a hospital in Khan Younis, in southern Gaza Strip.

It added that the Palestinian was shot east of Khan Younis and was treated by the medics who rushed him to the hospital but succumbed to his serious wounds.

It is worth mentioning that the soldiers injured during Friday’s processions 71 Palestinians, including 30 children, one medic and three women, after the army attacked the Great Return March processions in the Gaza Strip, the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) said.

The PCHR referred to a report published last Tuesday by the Israeli newspaper, Yedioth Aharonot, in which is said that the army has, in recent months, been training the soldiers on a new type of a sniper rifle, which indicates that the military is using the Palestinians as target practice for its weapons, in direct violation of all international laws and regulations, including human rights treaties and International Humanitarian Law.

According to extensive and ongoing PCHR documentation, the Israeli army has killed 207 Palestinians, including 44 children, two women, 9 persons with special needs, four medics and two journalists, in addition to wounding 13323 Palestinians, including 2742 children, 409 women, 221 medics and 207 journalists, since the Great Return March processions started on March 30 2018.

196 of the wounded Palestinians. Including 28 children and 5 women, suffered permanent disabilities. 149 of them suffered amputations as a result of Israeli gunfire, 21 suffered paralysis, 26 lost their hearing or vision, and 9 suffered permanent damage to reproductive organs.

Mahmoud Ahmad al-Adham

July 11, 2019: Mahmoud Ahmad al-Adham, 28, was killed by Israeli soldiers east of Beit Hanoun, in the northern part of the Gaza Strip. Mahmoud was a member of Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, and was shot while trying to prevent protesters from approaching the perimeter fence.

The Palestinian Health Ministry has confirmed that the soldiers shot and seriously injured Mahmoud Ahmad al-Adham, 28, on Thursday morning, east of Beit Hanoun, and added that the young man succumbed to his injuries on Thursday evening.

He was one of many “Field Control” officers, stationed near the perimeter fence to prevent Palestinian protesters from approaching the perimeter fence with Israel as part of an agreement meant to avoid escalation.

It is worth mentioning that the soldiers also fired several live rounds at the field control post east of Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip.

The Al-Qassam Brigades issued a statement accusing Israel of deliberately killing the Palestinian, and said that “it is evaluating the situation, and its response to the grave Israeli violation.”

His death comes after a period of relative calm along the perimeter fence, especially after the indirect “ceasefire understandings” between Hamas and Israel, to avoid tension along the fence.

He was one of the dozens of officers, and fighters, tasked with preventing any Palestinian from reaching the perimeter fence or attempting to cross it.

In a statement, the Israeli army admitted it shot and killed the fighter, after claiming that the incident was a “mistake stemming from a misunderstanding,” and added that “it will investigate it.”

As part of these understandings, Israel increased the fishing zone in the coastal region to fifteen nautical miles, a move that was described by Israeli officials as aiming at “preventing humanitarian deterioration,” in the already besieged and impoverished Gaza Strip.

Mohammad Sobhi al-Jodeili

June 10, 2019: Mohammad Sobhi al-Jodeili, 36, a medic, died from serious wounds he suffered, on May 3, 2019, when Israeli soldiers shot him with a rubber-coated steel bullet in the face in the Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has confirmed that the medic, from the al-Boreij refugee camp in central Gaza, suffered fractures in his nose, face and skull.

The soldiers shot him in Abu Safiyya area, in Jabalia, in the northern part of the coastal region, while he was providing medical care to wounded Palestinians during the Great Return March processions.

He received treatment at one of the make-shift hospitals before he was moved to a medical center in Gaza, and later was moved to the al-Ahli hospital in Hebron, in the southern part of the West Bank, due to the seriousness of his wounds.

Mohammad Abdul-Jawad Zo’rob

May 21, 2019: Mohammad Abdul-Jawad Zo’rob, 30, died from complications resulting from wounds he suffered in April 2018, when Israeli soldiers shot him during the Great Return March processions in the Gaza Strip.

His parents said their son was shot by Israeli army fire on April 27th, 2018.

They added that he suffered various complications since then, and developed tumors that eventually led to his death, especially amidst the lack of medical supplies in the besieged and impoverished Gaza Strip.

He was shot with an expanding bullet, and underwent several surgeries, but also suffered several infections in the wound area, eventually resulting in cancer.

Israeli soldiers have killed 307 Palestinians, including medics and journalists, and injured more than 29000, since the Great Return March procession started in the Gaza Strip, on Palestinian land Day, March 30th, 2018.

Aisha Lulu

May 19, 2019: Aisha Lulu, 5, died soon after enduring a brain surgery in Jerusalem alone because her parents were denied entry permits.

Aisha, a 5-year old Palestinian child from Gaza, was finally allowed permission to travel to Jerusalem for a complicated brain surgery, but was forced to travel alone when Israeli authorities denied her parents permission to accompany her. ٍShe suffered from a brain tumor and died soon after the surgery.

According to the Palestinian Minister of Health Mai Alkaila, Aisha Lulu, 5 years old,  died after returning to Gaza from surgery in Jerusalem, and a harrowing journey through numerous Israeli checkpoints that she had to endure alone.

Alkaila stated, “How can a little child travel alone through Israeli checkpoints without being escorted by her mother, father or brother to provide her with affection and psychological support during treatment?”

According to the Palestinian Wafa News Agency, none of Lulu’s family members were allowed by Israel to be on her side in hospital as applications by her family members to accompany her to Jerusalem for her complicated brain surgery were denied.

She had to travel with a woman, who wasn’t her mother or even related to her, and was allowed by Israel to accompany her.

In a press statement, Alkaila added, “Aisha had to fight her disease alone, in a blatant disregard to international agreements, covenants and treaties on human rights, children’s rights, the right to health and access to health services in a safe manner,.”

According to Wafa, Aisha suffered psychologically throughout the entire ordeal, and was seen crying and calling for her mother loudly to be beside her in the hospital.

Alkaila called on the international community to intervene, and to demand that Israel allow parents to accompany Palestinian children who are forced to leave the Gaza Strip for surgery.

Due to the Israeli siege imposed on Gaza since 2007, hundreds of Palestinian patients have died from being denied proper medical treatment. The hospitals in Gaza remain severely under-equipped, and sick Palestinians must travel to Israel or abroad because of the lack of treatment inside Gaza.

According to Wafa, last month, the World Health Organization said out of 2,004 patient applications submitted in March for an Israeli permit to cross Erez crossing between Gaza and Israel for health care outside the besieged Gaza Strip, only 1,293 (65%) of the total were approved, and 74 patient applications were denied permission, including four children under the age of 18 years.

Abdullah Jom’a Abdul-‘Al

May 10, 2019: Abdullah Jom’a Abdul-‘Al, 24, was shot and killed by Israeli soldiers while participating in the non-violent Great Return March protests on the Gaza-Israel border.

The Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza has confirmed that the soldiers killed Abdullah, after shooting him in the pelvis, east of Rafah, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.

His death came when Israeli soldiers attacked, Friday, the weekly Great Return March processions on Palestinian lands along the eastern areas of the Gaza Strip, killing Abdullah and wounding 30, including four children, and one medic who was shot in the head while providing treatment to wounded Palestinians.

The medic, identified as Mohammad Abu T’eima,  was shot as he, and several other medics, were providing treatment to wounded protesters, who were shot by the soldiers on Palestinian lands, east of Khan Younis, in the southern part of the coastal region.

Eyewitnesses said the soldiers engaged in the excessive use of force against the protesters by firing a barrage of live rounds, rubber-coated steel bullets and high-velocity  gas bombs at them.
