Mohammad Salman al-Haddad

February 5, 2020: Mohammad Salman al-Haddad, 17, was shot and killed, on Wednesday, by Israeli soldiers who attacked Palestinian protesters in the southern West Bank city of Hebron, the Palestinian Ministry of Health has reported.

Witnesses said protests broke out in Bab az-Zawiya area, where the heavily-barricaded Israeli-controlled H2 area of Hebron meets the Palestinian-administered H1 section, where Israeli soldiers fired live rounds, rubber-coated steel bullets and tear-gas canisters at the youths.

The Ministry of Health said al-Haddad was brought to Hebron hospital in critical condition after an Israeli soldier shot him with a live round in the heart; he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

During the protest, some soldiers even fired bursts of automatic live fire at the unarmed Palestinian protesters who hurled stones at them.

The soldiers also fired a barrage of gas bombs, rubber-coated steel bullets, and concussion grenades.

The burial of the slain Palestinian teen was held by hundreds of Palestinians in Hebron, hours after his death.

Ala’ Hani al-Abbassi

Ala AbassiJanuary 31, 2020: Ala’ Hani al-Abbassi, 15, died from serious wounds he suffered in mid-October of 2019, after Israeli soldiers shot him in southern Gaza.

Palestinian sources said the child, Ala’ Hani al-Abbassi, 15, was shot by the soldiers with a high-velocity gas bomb in his head, east of Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.

After his injury, the child received the needed first aid before he was rushed to a hospital in Khan Younis.

The child underwent surgeries and remained in a coma in the Intensive Care Unit for three months, until he was pronounced dead on January 31st.

On Friday at dawn, the Israeli army carried out a series of airstrikes targeting several areas in Rafah, in southern Gaza.

Media sources said the army carried out ten strikes that led to extensive property damage and caused a power blackout over most of the Rafah. This blackout may have affected the life support systems at the hospital, leading to his death.

Fahed Mohammad al-Astal

November 29, 2019: Fahed Mohammad Walid al-Astal, 16, was killed by Israeli army fire when the army attacked protesters, hundreds of meters away from the perimeter fence, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.

The incident took place when approximately twenty residents gathered on Palestinian lands, a few hundred meters from the fence.

The soldiers, stationed in their posts and army vehicles across the fence, fired live bullets, rubber-coated steel rounds, and high-velocity gas bombs at several Palestinians, killing Fahed, and injuring at least five others, east of Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.

Dr. Ashraf al-Qedra, the spokesperson of the Health Ministry in Gaza, has confirmed that the soldiers killed Fahed with a live round in the abdomen.

Dr. al-Qedra added that the soldiers also shot at least five other Palestinians and caused many to suffer the effects of teargas inhalation.

The Palestinians gathered at the Great Return March encampment, at least 700 meters away from the perimeter fence, east of Khan Younis, marking International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

It is worth mentioning that the Great Return March processions have been suspended for the third week, but have not been canceled.

The Committee for the Great Return March Processions said the temporary halt of the processions is not related to any “truce talks,” but to avoid further casualties after Israel threatened to escalate its already excessive use of force.

Over 348 Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza Strip, and about 18,500 others injured by Israeli forces since the beginning of the Great March of Return protests at Gaza’s border, on March 30, 2018.

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) documented 215 killings by Israel since the outbreak of the Great Return March protests on 30 March 2018, including 47 children, 2 women, 9 persons with disabilities, 4 paramedics and 2 journalists.

The PCHR also said that 14,713 were wounded, including 3,696 children, 387 women, 253 paramedics, and 218 journalists, noting that many of those wounded had sustained multiple injuries on separate occasions.

These figures do not include the Palestinians who were killed by Israeli bullets, missiles, and shells, during military offensives on Gaza.

Mohannad Rasmi Salem Sawarka

November 14, 2019: Mohannad Rasmi Salem Nasser Sawarka, 12, was killed along with his parents and two little brothers, as well as his aunt and two cousins, by an Israeli missile strike that hit their family home on Thursday at dawn.

The Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza reported that Israeli missiles targeted a Palestinian home in Deir al-Balah, in central Gaza, killing eight members of the same family, and wounding thirteen others.

The Health Ministry stated that Israeli F16 war jets fired missiles into a home in Deir al-Balah, killing eight family members, and wounding at least thirteen others, most of them women and children.

The remains of two more children were found under the rubble after a lengthy search for survivors.

Mohannad’s best friend Mohammed Mehsen, 14, said to reporters with Middle East Eye at his funeral, “We heard the massive explosion at midnight and immediately rushed to their house. I was shocked. Muhannad’s house completely disappeared, as if it had never been there.”

Although Muhannad was two years younger than Mohammed, he was his “closest friend”.

“I knew Muhannad since we were in kindergarten, we were friends and neighbours, and used to go to school together,” the boy said.

“Muhannad and I used to play with our bicycles every day after school, but when it got dark at night, we loved to play hide and seek,” he smiled. “He loved animals and especially dogs, he always wanted to adopt one”

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) has reported that the slain Sawarka (Abu Malhous) family has been officially identified as:

  1. Rasmi Salem Odah Sawarka, 45.
  2. Mariam Salem Nasser Sawarka, 45.
  3. Mohannad Rasmi Salem Sawarka, 12.
  4. Firas Rasmi Salem Sawarka, 2.
  5.  Salem Rasmi Salem Sawarka, 3.
  6.  Moath Mohammad Salem Sawarka, 7.
  7. Waseem Mohammad Salem Sawarka, 13.

She was identified as Farah Rasmi Salem Al Sawarka, sister to Mohannad, 12, Salem, 3, and Firas, 2, who were killed, and the youngest child of Rasmi Salem al-Sawarka, 45, and Mariam Sawarka. Both parents were also killed. Farah is the only surviving family member. Her uncle, Mohammad, also survived the attack with severe injuries, but his wife and two children – Moath, 7, and Waseem, 13, were killed.

The slain and injured Palestinians were moved to the al-Aqsa hospital, while medics and rescue teams started a search campaign, looking for more Palestinians who might be buried under the rubble.

In related news, a six-month pregnant woman, identified as Iman Abu Tayyim, suffered a miscarriage in a severe anxiety attack after the soldiers fired missiles near her home, east of Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.

The escalation on the Gaza Strip started when Israel assassinated a senior leader of the Islamic Jihad, identified as Baha’ Abu al-‘Ata, when the soldiers dropped a missile on his home, killing him along with his wife, Asma’, also wounding many members of their family, in addition to a female neighbor, in the Sheja’eyya area, east of Gaza city.

Israeli missiles and shells have caused a power blackout after striking main powerlines and transformers, especially in Gaza city and the northern parts of the coastal region, including Jabalia and Beit Lahia.

The deaths of the 8 family members bring the total number of casualties in the three days of Israeli aggression against Gaza to 34. More than 100 have been wounded. Among the wounded are at least 30 children and 13 women. No Israelis have been killed or wounded.
