Mohammad Ali Dar Adwan

April 1, 2019: Mohammad Ali Dar Adwan, 23, was shot and killed by Israeli forces who invaded Qalandia refugee camp, north of occupied Jerusalem, on Monday, and attacked local protesters, wounding at least two other young men.

The Palestinians gathered in the streets and alleys of the refugee camp, and protested the invasion, while several protesters hurled stones at the armored military jeeps.

The soldiers fired many live rounds, rubber-coated steel bullets, gas bombs and concussion grenades at the protesters.

Medical sources said the soldiers shot three young men in the refugee camp, and the al-Matar adjacent neighborhood.

Adwan was near his home when he was shot and killed – it was unclear if he was participating in the protest or not.

The WAFA Palestinian News Agency said Mohammad ran towards his home due to the intensity of the live rounds fired by the soldiers, but once he approached his home several soldiers were standing right in front of it, and opened fire at him.

WAFA added that the soldiers shot the young man with more than 10 bullets, before dragging his body into their jeep, and prevented medics from reaching him to provide aid, until he had passed away from blood loss.

The Israeli forces then handed Adwan’s corpse to medics with the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, who transferred his body to the Ramallah governmental hospital.

His funeral ceremony was held at noon after his body was transferred via ambulance to his home, where thousands of Palestinians gathered and participated in his funeral procession and ceremony.

During the invasion of the camp, Israeli forces stormed the home of the Rajab family, and abducted three brothers: Ibrahim Rajab, Yousef Rajab, and No’man Rajab.

The killing of Adwan comes after a brutal crackdown on the Palestinian Land Day protest on Saturday in Gaza, in which three Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces. Two of those killed were 17 years old.

It is worth mentioning that the soldiers also invaded the nearby city of Betunia, in addition to the villages of Qarawat Bani Zeid and Kafr Ein.

The soldiers searched many homes, and summoned for interrogation a former political prisoner, identified as Mahran Raja Saif, after invading his home in Qarawat Bani Zeid village.

Sajid Abdel Hakim Mizhir

March 26, 2019: Sajid Abdel Hakim Helmi Mizhir, 17, a young Palestinian paramedic, was shot and killed by Israeli forces who  opened fire at him despite the fact that he was wearing his clearly marked medic vest. He died of his wounds in the hospital soon after.

The killing occurred when Israeli troops invaded Deheishe camp on Wednesday at dawn, and injured several Palestinians. Sajid was there to treat the wounded, when he was shot in the abdomen.

During the invasion, the soldiers stormed and ransacked several homes, and abducted Mohammad Riziq Hammash, 21, Mahmoud Walid Lahham, and Ma’ali Issa Ma’ali, 27.

Media sources said the soldiers fired many live rounds, rubber-coated steel bullets, gas bombs, and concussion grenades at dozens of youngsters, who protested the invasion and hurled stones at the armored vehicles.

They added that four Palestinians were shot with live fire before they were rushed to medical centers in Bethlehem, while many others suffered the effects of teargas inhalation.

Sajid was shot with a live round in the abdomen and was rushed to surgery at the Arab Society Hospital for Rehabilitation, where he died of his wounds.

A second Palestinian was shot in the shoulder, a third in the thigh and the fourth in the arm.

The soldiers also invaded and ransacked many homes in the refugee camp and occupied several rooftops to use them as firing posts and monitoring towers.

During the home invasions and searches, the soldiers abducted Mohammad Rezeq Hammash, 21, Mahmoud Walid Lahham, and Ma’ali Issa Ma’ali, 27.

The Palestinian Health Ministry issued a statement denouncing Sajid’s death, and stated that the constant targeting of medics and journalists is serious violation of International Law and all related international resolutions, especially the laws that protect civilians in the time of war.

Palestinian Health Minister, Dr. Jawad Awwad, said the soldiers shot and killed Sajed with live fire, despite his clearly marked medic vest.

He added that the Israeli crimes and violations against Palestinian medics have led to the death of four medics since 2018, in addition to dozens of injuries and serious damage to ambulances and clinics.

It is worth mentioning that Sajid’s cousin, Arkan Tha’er Mizhir, 15, was killed by Israeli soldiers on July 22, 2018, after the army invaded the refugee camp.

Habeeb al-Masri

March 24, 2019: Habeeb al-Masri, 24, died from serious wounds he suffered on Saturday night, after Israeli soldiers shot him in the northern part of the coastal region.

Dr. Ashraf al-Qedra, the spokesperson of the Health Ministry in Gaza, reported that the Palestinian was identified as Habeeb al-Masri, 24.

He added that Habeeb was shot during a protest near the perimeter fence, east of Beit Hanoun in the northern part of the Gaza Strip, after the soldiers targeted many protesters with live fire, rubber-coated steel bullets and high-velocity gas bombs.

Habeeb suffered a very serious injury after a soldier shot him with a live round in the chest, and was rushed to the Indonesian Hospital, in Jabalia, before he was moved to the Shifa Medical Center in Gaza City, due to the seriousness of his wounds.

Dr. al-Qedra said that, despite all efforts to save his life, Habeeb succumbed to his wounds at dawn, Sunday. The soldiers also injured at least two other Palestinians with live fire and caused many to suffer the effects of teargas inhalation.

This followed Israeli attacks on protests a day earlier, on Friday, throughout Gaza, which resulted in two Palestinians killed by Israeli gunfire and more than 180 wounded.

Also at dawn Sunday, Israeli army drones fired missiles into several areas, east of Rafah, in southern Gaza, and east of the al-Boreij refugee camp, in central Gaza, causing damage.

The Israeli army claimed that the sirens were sounded in the Eshkol Regional Council of Settlements and added that some protesters flew flammable balloons which apparently exploded before flying over the perimeter fence.

Nidal ‘Abdel Karim Shatat

Nidal ShatatMarch 22, 2019: Nidal ‘Abdel Karim Ahmed Shatat, 29, was shot and killed by Israeli forces while participating in the 51st weekly Great March of Return protest in Gaza. In addition to Nedal, Israeli forces also killed  Jihad Munir Khaled Hararah (24), from al-Shija’iyah neighborhood in Gaza City, and wounded 181 others, including 53 Children, 5 Women, 1 Paramedic, and 3 Journalists.  Three of those wounded were reported as having very serious injuries.

Nidal was wounded at approximately 17:20 with a bullet that entered the left side of his chest and exited the right side when he was among the protesters around 50 meters away from the border fence, east of al-Bureij refugee camp.  At approximately 17:40, he was declared dead on arrival at Shuhaa’ al-Aqsa Hospital.

Jihad Munir Khaled Hararah (24), from al-Shija’iyah neighborhood in Gaza City, was wounded in eastern Shija’iyah and arrived at 16:50 at al-Shifaa’ Hospital, where his death was declared at 17:30.

At approximately 15:00, thousands of civilians, including women, children and entire families, started marching to the five encampments established by the Supreme National Authority of Great March of Return and Breaking the Siege adjacent to the border fence with Israel in eastern Gaza Strip cities. Hundreds, including children and women, approached the border fence with Israel in front of each encampment and gathered meters and tens of meters away from the main border fence, burning tires and attempting to throw stones at the Israeli forces. Although the protesters gathered in areas open to the Israeli snipers stationed on the top of the sand berms and military watchtowers and inside and behind the military jeeps, the Israeli forces fired live and rubber bullets in addition to a barrage of tear gas canisters. The Israeli shooting, which continued until at around 18:00, resulted the killing of 2 civilians.

According to observations by Palestinian Center for Human Rights fieldworkers, the Israeli forces, who were stationed in prone positions and in military jeeps along the fence with Israel, continued to use excessive force against the protesters by opening fire with both live ammunition and tear gas.

As a result, dozens of protesters were hit with bullets and teargas canisters without posing any imminent threat or danger to the life of soldiers.

Moreover, PCHR’s fieldworkers said that the Israeli forces raised the sand berms on which the snipers are stationed, particularly in eastern Khan Younis, enabling them to see clearly and completely the area where the protesters are spread and deep into the Return encampment.

These new violations come only hours after the UN Human Rights Council adopted a resolution on accountability brought by Pakistan on behalf of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC). The vote had 23 states voting in favor, 8 against and 15 abstentions, condemning Israel’s “apparent intentional use of unlawful lethal and other excessive force” against civilian protesters in Gaza.

The vote follows a report by the United Nations Independent Commission of Inquiry to investigate the violations committed in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, on their findings and results during the period from 30 March to 31 December 2018.  The Commission concluded that there are reasonable grounds to believe that the Israeli forces committed serious violations during the Great March of Return protests that may constitute war crimes or crimes against humanity.

The Israeli bullets and tear gas canisters wounded 181 Palestinian civilians, including 53 Children, 5 Women, 1 Paramedic, and 3 Journalists.  In addition, dozens of protesters, paramedics and journalists suffered tear gas inhalation and seizures due to tear gas canisters that were fired by the Israeli forces from the military jeeps and riffles in the eastern Gaza Strip. The Israeli forces targeted the medical field point in eastern Bureij Refugee Camp; as a result, one of the paramedics suffered tear gas inhalation.  A Palestinian Red Crescent Society volunteer paramedic was also hit with a tear gas canister to his hand in eastern Jabalia. This indicates the Israeli systematic policy to target the medical personnel and obstruct their humanitarian work. Medica are supposed to be guaranteed protection according to international humanitarian law.
